What Should I Actually Book?

The most common way people waste a session at this clinic is booking by name instead of by need — or booking 30 minutes when the problem needs 60. Tap what is going on and we will tell you.

Appointment finder

A starting point, not a diagnosis. Your therapist adjusts after the assessment.

Getting started
Tap what brings you in

Most first visits at Loong Wellness land on a 60-minute RMT appointment, because that leaves time for intake, a movement check, treatment and homecare rather than rushing one of them.

This is a booking guide, not medical advice. If your pain is severe, spreading, or comes with numbness, weakness, fever or dizziness, see a physician before booking massage or acupuncture.

Why it says "registered"

The Difference That Actually Matters

"Massage" is not a protected word in British Columbia — anyone can offer it. "Registered Massage Therapist" is a regulated title, and that distinction decides whether your insurer will look at the receipt.

Training

Accredited education and board exams

RMTs complete an accredited program and pass provincial board examinations before they can practise. It is a health profession, not a certificate course.

Regulation

Accountable to a college

Registration is held with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia, which sets standards of practice and handles complaints. You can verify any therapist on the public register.

Coverage

An insurance-eligible receipt

Extended health plans are built around registered massage therapy. If you intend to claim, book an RMT appointment — see direct billing before your visit.

What people come in with

Six Patterns We See Most Weeks

Desk

Upper back, neck and shoulders

Hours at a screen shorten the front of the chest and overload the mid-back. The most requested RMT massage appointment at this clinic, by a wide margin.

Low back

A back that never fully settles

Work through the paraspinals, QL and glutes rather than only where you point. What is complaining is not always what is driving it.

Headaches

Tension-type headaches

Often traceable to the neck, jaw and upper trapezius. Treatment plus a re-test of neck rotation so you can feel whether anything changed.

Movement

Restricted range

Shoulders that will not go overhead, hips that will not rotate. We test, treat, then test again — the change should be measurable, not a feeling that fades in the car.

Work

Repetitive strain from physical jobs

Trades, hospitality, healthcare, drivers. Evening appointments Monday to Thursday exist for exactly this.

Collision

ICBC-related symptoms

Whiplash, neck pain, headaches and stiffness after a motor vehicle accident. Bring your claim number — see ICBC RMT treatment.

The room

Fully Enclosed, Not Curtained

Every treatment at 560 Kingsway happens behind a door in one of six private rooms. That matters more than people expect — for privacy, for noise, and for being able to actually relax rather than listening to the appointment next door.

  • You stay draped throughout and decide what is uncovered
  • Pressure is agreed out loud before treatment starts, and changes the moment you say so
  • Every room is set up for massage, acupuncture, cupping and TCM — so treatments can be combined in one visit
  • Scent-reduced options available on request

Your first visit

What Happens in the Room

The same four steps regardless of appointment length. What changes is how much time each one gets — which is why booking 30 minutes for a whole-back problem does not work.

Intake

What is actually going on

Health history, medication, what makes it worse, and what "better" would look like for you. If you have insurance or an ICBC claim, this is when we set the billing path up.

Assessment

A short movement check

Overhead reach, rotation, a hinge — whatever is relevant. The point is to find what is actually restricted rather than treating only the loudest symptom.

Treatment

Your pressure, your pace

Technique matched to how your tissue responds, with check-ins when moving between regions. Firm work should feel intense but breathable — never something you brace against.

Re-test

Something you can feel before you leave

We repeat the movement check so the change is measurable, then give you two or three specific things to do before the next visit. Written down, not recited at the door.

Still not sure which appointment or how long?

Describe what you're dealing with and whether you have coverage. Two minutes on the phone is cheaper than booking the wrong hour.

Frequently asked

RMT Questions

How much does an RMT appointment cost?

$100 for 30 minutes, $120 for 45, $140 for 60 and $210 for 90, plus GST. There is no surcharge for deep tissue, sports or hot stone work — those are billed at the same registered rate. See the full rate list.

Should I book 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes?

30 minutes for one focused area such as neck and shoulders. 45 for two related areas. 60 for a general region with time for assessment and homecare — where most first visits land. 90 when several regions need covering properly rather than rushed.

Is RMT covered by insurance?

Most BC extended health plans include massage therapy benefits, but the amount, annual limit and whether a referral is needed depend on your specific plan. Check your remaining benefit before booking — a used-up annual maximum is the most common reason a claim does not go through. See direct billing.

What is the difference between RMT and non-registered massage?

RMTs complete accredited training and board examinations and are regulated in BC, which is what makes the receipt claimable. Non-RMT massage is a lower-cost option for general tension and relaxation, but no insurance plan will accept it.

Can I book RMT for an ICBC claim?

Yes. Bring your ICBC claim number, the date of the collision, and a description of your symptoms. ICBC-related care follows a different billing path from extended health — see ICBC RMT treatment, or call if you are unsure whether to book RMT, acupuncture or both.

Should I book RMT or acupuncture first?

RMT is usually the clearer starting point for localised muscle, joint or movement concerns. Acupuncture may suit broader pain patterns, stress, sleep concerns or a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment. Because both happen in the same rooms here, they can also be combined in one visit.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours after firmer work is common, similar to the day after a hard workout. Sharp pain, bruising, numbness or soreness that is worse on day three is not — tell us if that happens, because it means the pressure was wrong for you.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Often. Several registered therapists work at 560 Kingsway, including evenings Monday to Thursday and both weekend days. Call (604) 620-6560 for anything urgent — online booking shows live availability.

What should I wear?

Whatever is comfortable. You stay draped throughout and you decide what is uncovered. If you would rather stay fully clothed, say so at intake and the treatment is adapted — there is plenty that can be done through clothing.
