Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Vancouver — Gentle, Registered, Insurable

A light, slow, rhythmic treatment for people who feel puffy, heavy or fluid-retentive and have found that a regular massage doesn't reach it. Delivered by a Registered Massage Therapist, so it produces a receipt your extended health plan can accept.

What it actually feels like

Most people expect a massage. This is not that. The therapist works with very light pressure in slow, repeated, directional strokes, usually starting near the collarbone and neck before moving toward the area you're concerned about. There is no kneading, no elbows, no "good pain."

If you have booked a deep tissue massage before and found it too intense, or if you have swelling and puffiness that firm massage seems to aggravate, this is usually the more appropriate booking.

The thing people get wrong

Where This Sits on the Pressure Scale

The most common booking mistake at our clinic is choosing by name instead of by pressure. Here is how our three massage services actually compare.

Very light Lymphatic drainage Skin-level, slow, directional. For puffiness, heaviness and fluid retention — or simply when firm work is too much. You are here.
Light to medium Relaxation massage Full-body flow for general tension and stress. See regular massage.
Firm to strong Deep tissue & RMT Sustained pressure into muscle for pain, injury and restriction. See deep tissue or registered massage therapy.

Not sure which one you need? Call and describe what you're feeling. If lymphatic drainage isn't the right treatment for you, we will say so before you pay for it.

Straight answers

What We Say It Does — and What We Won't Claim

A lot of lymphatic massage marketing promises things that cannot be measured. We would rather tell you exactly what this treatment is, so you can decide whether it is worth your money.

What clients commonly come in for

  • A feeling of puffiness or heaviness, particularly in the legs
  • Mild fluid retention after long flights, long shifts on your feet, or hot weather
  • Muscle tension where firmer pressure has felt like too much
  • Wanting a genuinely gentle treatment rather than a deep one
  • General relaxation, when a slower pace suits you better

What we will not tell you it does

  • We do not claim it detoxifies your body or removes toxins
  • We do not claim it strengthens your immune system
  • We do not claim it balances hormones or aids weight loss
  • We do not claim it reshapes or contours your face or body
  • We do not treat lymphoedema — that needs specialised clinical training and a physician-led care plan, and we will refer you elsewhere

Massage therapy supports comfort and mobility. It is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. If your swelling is new, one-sided, painful or getting worse, please see a physician first.

Who books it

Four Reasons People Choose This Over a Regular Massage

Heaviness

Legs that feel full by evening

Long shifts standing, long-haul travel, or hot weather. The work is slow and directional, and most people notice it in how their legs feel rather than how they look.

Pressure

When deep tissue is too much

Some people simply do not tolerate firm work — through sensitivity, a health condition, or preference. This is the gentlest treatment on our menu.

Warmth

Paired with hot stones

Heated stones are used alongside the technique so tight muscles can let go without added pressure. Useful if you want warmth rather than force.

Recovery

Between harder sessions

Some clients alternate — registered massage therapy or deep tissue when they need it, gentler work in between.

The hot stone combination

Warmth Instead of Force

Our lymphatic session includes heated stones. They are not decorative — warmth helps tight tissue soften so the therapist can keep the pressure light and still cover the area properly. If you have always been told to "relax" during a massage and found it hard, this combination usually makes it easier.

  • Stones are placed and glided, not pressed hard
  • Temperature is checked with you before and during
  • You stay draped throughout and control what is uncovered
  • Tell us at any point if it is too warm or too much — that changes immediately

If you want heat without the lymphatic technique, see hot stone massage instead.

What Happens in the Room

Every treatment takes place in a fully enclosed private room, not a curtained bay.

0–10 min

Intake

We ask about your health history, any medication, recent surgery or medical procedures, and what specifically is bothering you. This is also where we check whether this treatment is appropriate for you at all — sometimes the answer is no, and we would rather find that out now.

10–50 min

Treatment

Light, slow, repeated strokes in a set direction, generally beginning near the neck and collarbone before working toward the area of concern. Heated stones are introduced here. You stay draped throughout and you control what is uncovered.

50–60 min

Afterwards

Get up slowly — some people feel a little light-headed. Drink water, keep moving gently, and expect to use the bathroom more than usual for the rest of the day. That is a normal response.

Describe what you're feeling — we'll tell you what to book

Where the heaviness or puffiness is, how long it has been there, and whether anything medical is going on. Two minutes on the phone saves booking the wrong treatment.

Elena works with discomfort that builds slowly — repetitive strain, long hours in one position, and the postural patterns that come with everyday work. Her approach is attentive and unhurried, which is part of why gentle work suits her practice.

She offers lymphatic drainage with hot stone alongside standard registered massage therapy, so if your needs change between visits you do not have to change therapists.

This is our Lymphatic Drainage Therapy with Hot Stone session. Because it is delivered by a Registered Massage Therapist, it produces the same insurance-eligible receipt as any other RMT visit.

  • Extended health. Most BC plans cover registered massage therapy. Check your remaining annual benefit before booking.
  • Direct billing. If your provider is supported, you pay only the portion your plan does not cover.
  • Not a spa treatment. Lymphatic-style massage offered without RMT credentials is not eligible for insurance. Ours is.

When this is not the right booking

Please tell us before you book, or speak to your physician first, if any of these apply: an active infection or fever; a known or suspected blood clot; congestive heart failure or kidney disease; active cancer or current cancer treatment; a diagnosis of lymphoedema; a skin infection or open wound over the area; or you are pregnant.

If you are recovering from surgery, get clearance from your surgeon before booking any massage, and tell us the procedure and the date at intake so the session can be adjusted or declined.

None of these are automatic refusals — several simply mean we change what we do, or ask you to check with your doctor first. But we need to know.

Frequently asked

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Questions

How much does lymphatic drainage massage cost in Vancouver?

Our 60-minute session is $160 plus GST. Because it is delivered by a Registered Massage Therapist, it produces an insurance-eligible receipt, and we direct bill most major providers. All current prices are on our rate page.

Is lymphatic drainage massage covered by insurance in BC?

When performed by a Registered Massage Therapist it falls under massage therapy, and most BC extended health plans cover it. This is worth checking before you book anywhere — many providers offering lymphatic-style massage in Vancouver are not RMTs, which means no receipt and no coverage.

How is it different from a regular massage?

Pressure and pace. A regular massage works into muscle with moderate to firm pressure. This works at skin level with very light, slow, repeated strokes in a specific direction. If you want tension worked out of your shoulders, book registered massage therapy instead — that is a different job.

Will I see a difference right away?

Some people notice their legs feel lighter the same day; others notice very little after one session and more over a short series. We would rather set that expectation honestly than promise a result. If nothing changes after two or three sessions, we will tell you and suggest something else.

Do I need to drink more water afterwards?

Drinking water is sensible after any massage. Expect to use the bathroom more than usual for the rest of the day — that is a normal response, not a sign that anything is being "flushed out."

How often should I book?

It depends what you are managing. Some people book occasionally, after travel or a heavy stretch at work. Others do a short series of weekly sessions and then space them out. Your therapist will suggest a frequency after the first visit rather than selling you a package up front.

Do you treat lymphoedema?

No. Lymphoedema is a clinical condition that requires specialised certified training and a physician-led care plan, often with compression garments. We do not offer that, and we will refer you to a clinic that does rather than take the booking.

Can I book after cosmetic or orthopaedic surgery?

Only with clearance from your surgeon. Tell us the procedure and the date when you book. Depending on where you are in healing we may adjust the session, wait, or decline it — that decision is made on the day and it is not one we rush.

Can I book same-week?

Usually, yes. Several registered therapists work at 560 Kingsway, including evenings Monday to Thursday and both weekend days. Call (604) 620-6560 for anything urgent — online booking shows live availability.
