Many extended health insurance plans include coverage for registered massage therapy, but coverage is not the same for every patient. Whether your RMT appointment is covered depends on your insurance provider, plan rules, annual limit, referral requirements, remaining balance, appointment type, and eligibility at the time of billing.
Loong Wellness supports direct billing for many common insurance plans, but direct billing does not guarantee that your full appointment will be covered. If direct billing is not approved during your visit, you may need to pay first and submit your receipt manually.

RMT is commonly eligible under many extended health plans, but you should not assume every plan covers every appointment. If you want to use insurance, book a registered massage therapist appointment, not non-registered massage. Bring your insurance card, policy number, member ID, and any referral if your plan requires one.

Your insurance result depends on more than the name of your insurance company. Two patients can have the same insurer but different coverage because their employer or group plan has different rules.
Your plan may have a yearly maximum for RMT or paramedical services. If the limit is used up, direct billing may not go through.
Some plans only cover part of each visit. You may still need to pay a remaining balance at the clinic.
Some plans require a doctor’s referral before RMT reimbursement. Check your plan before your appointment.
If you want insurance, book RMT. Do not assume non-registered massage will be accepted by your plan.
Bring your insurance card, member ID, policy number, certificate number and any required plan information.
If direct billing is declined or only partially approved, you may need to pay first and submit your receipt manually.
Direct billing means the clinic attempts to submit the claim to your insurance provider during your visit. This may reduce what you pay at the clinic, but it depends on your insurance plan and approval at the time of billing.
The clinic attempts to submit the claim during your appointment. Your plan may still leave a remaining balance, co-pay, or declined amount.
If direct billing is unavailable or declined, you may need to pay at the clinic and submit your receipt through your insurance app or portal.
For more detail, review our direct billing RMT guide.
Bring your physical insurance card or app information.
Bring your policy number, member ID, certificate number and any plan details requested by your insurer.
Some plans require a doctor’s referral. Check this before booking.
Bring a backup payment method in case direct billing is declined, unavailable or only partially approved.
This is one of the most common booking mistakes. If your goal is to use extended health insurance, start with an RMT appointment unless your plan clearly says otherwise.
RMT is commonly the correct massage therapy category under many extended health plans. It is also the better starting point for pain, stiffness, injury recovery, movement restriction and clinical soft tissue concerns.
Non-registered massage may be suitable for relaxation, stress relief and lower-cost maintenance. Do not assume it can be direct billed or reimbursed by your plan.
If your RMT appointment is related to a motor vehicle accident, bring your ICBC claim number, accident date and main symptoms. ICBC-related appointments are different from regular extended health insurance appointments.
If you are unsure whether to book RMT, acupuncture or both after a car accident, call Loong Wellness before booking.
Direct billing can fail even when your plan includes RMT coverage. This does not always mean you have no benefits. It may mean your insurer requires more information, manual submission, a referral, or that your plan has reached a limit.
The insurer did not approve direct billing during the visit. You may need to pay first and submit manually.
Your RMT benefits may already be used for the year. Check your remaining balance with your insurer.
Your plan may require a doctor’s referral before reimbursement. Confirm requirements before booking.
Your plan may cover RMT but not non-registered massage. Book the correct service type before your visit.
Many extended health plans include RMT benefits, but coverage depends on your individual plan, remaining benefits, referral requirements and insurer rules.
No. Direct billing means the clinic attempts to submit the claim directly. Your plan may still leave a remaining balance, co-pay or declined amount.
Do not assume non-registered massage is covered. If you want to use extended health insurance, book an RMT appointment unless your plan clearly says otherwise.
Bring your insurance card, member ID, policy number, certificate number, photo ID, and any referral if your plan requires one.
RMT prices depend on appointment length. Review the Loong Wellness RMT rate page before booking.
