Get your claim number first
The number is created when you report the claim to ICBC, online or by phone. Keep it on your phone — it is what lets us bill ICBC from your very first visit.

</div>Hurt in a car accident in BC? For the first 12 weeks, ICBC pre-approves registered massage therapy and acupuncture, with no doctor's referral and no matter who was responsible. Bring your claim number and Personal Health Number to 560 Kingsway, and we bill ICBC directly.

Yes. If you were hurt in a motor vehicle crash in BC and have an ICBC claim number, you can book ICBC RMT or ICBC acupuncture at 560 Kingsway, and we bill ICBC directly. Under Enhanced Care, both are pre-approved for the first 12 weeks after the crash. You do not need a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner, or approval from ICBC first.
It is the same care as any other appointment. ICBC treatment is delivered by the same registered therapists as our regular appointments, in the same private rooms. See East Vancouver RMT for how a session is structured and what each appointment length covers.
The window opens on the day of the crash, not the day you book. People who start in the first week simply have more of it to use.
Weeks after the crash
The number is created when you report the claim to ICBC, online or by phone. Keep it on your phone — it is what lets us bill ICBC from your very first visit.
Up to 12 RMT and 12 acupuncture visits are pre-approved in this window, with no referral needed. A steady weekly rhythm is easier to plan than a rush at the end, so book the first one this week.
Visits after week 12 are not automatic. If recovery is slow, tell your practitioner before the window closes so a request can go to your ICBC recovery specialist in time.
Based on ICBC's rules for treatments between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027 (ICBC's summary). Want the coverage rules in full? Read our plain-language guide, does ICBC cover RMT.
ICBC massage therapy (RMT) and ICBC acupuncture are both covered under your claim, and both happen in this clinic. Start with the one that matches what you feel now — you can add the other later without using up either allowance.
| After the crash, you notice… | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Neck stiffness, whiplash-type soreness, shoulder tightness | ICBC RMT | RMT is usually the more practical starting point for soft tissue pain, stiffness and movement restriction. |
| Low back pain, hip tension or muscle guarding | ICBC RMT | An RMT can assess muscle tension, mobility limits and accident-related soft tissue symptoms, and adjust pressure as you improve. |
| Headaches that start in the neck | RMT firstadd acupuncture if they persist | Neck-related headaches often involve soft tissue tension. Acupuncture may support broader pain and stress patterns if they hang on. |
| Poor sleep, feeling on edge, pain that seems widespread | ICBC acupuncture | Acupuncture may be considered when symptoms are less localized or involve sleep, stress and pain sensitivity. |
| You are not sure | Call us first | Describe your symptoms and your claim situation. We will tell you which to book, or whether to see a physician first. |
Want the detail before you decide? Read how our acupuncture sessions work, or call and describe your symptoms.
Most of the stress around a first ICBC visit is not knowing what paperwork you need. The list is short.
Claim number and PHN at the front desk. No claim number yet? Call before you book.
How the crash happened, where it hurts, and what is harder now: sleeping, driving, sitting at work, lifting.
An RMT checks movement and soft tissue; an acupuncturist maps your symptoms and pain pattern. Nothing is pushed through pain.
Treatment within your comfort, simple things to do between visits, and how often to come back inside your 12 weeks.

The right appointment depends on the symptom, how long ago the crash was, and whether anything needs medical assessment first.
Soreness and reduced turning range that often shows up a day or two after the crash. ICBC RMT is usually the practical place to start, with pressure kept gentle in the early weeks.
Muscles that tightened while bracing for impact, often worse after a day at a desk or behind the wheel. Treatment focuses on the tension and on getting normal movement back.
Guarding through the low back and hips that makes sitting, and getting in and out of the car, harder. Firm pressure such as deep tissue massage usually comes later in recovery, not in the first weeks.
Tension-type headaches that travel up from a stiff neck are one of the most common reasons people book after a crash. A headache that keeps getting worse is different — see a physician first.
Waking at night, feeling on edge in traffic, pain that seems to be everywhere. Acupuncture may be considered here, alongside any care your physician recommends.
Once the early phase has passed, the goal shifts to loading back up safely. That is the point where sports massage built around your training fits in.
The short version: bring your claim number and we bill ICBC. These are the details people ask us about most.
The 12 weeks run from the crash date, not your first visit. Wait three weeks to book and you have nine left. Booking early is the simplest way to get the most from your coverage.
Tell us the date of the crash and what hurts. We will book the right first visit — RMT, acupuncture or both — and tell you if anything should be checked by a physician first.
After a crash you already have a claim, a sore neck and too many phone calls. Here is exactly what to expect from us, and where our role stops.

Get emergency or medical care before booking any treatment if you have:
Mention it when you book if you have a concussion diagnosis, take blood thinners, are pregnant, or have an implanted device such as a pacemaker. Each one changes how a session is run, and a few mean waiting for your physician's go-ahead.
Our part is hands-on recovery care. Diagnosis, imaging and medical treatment stay with your physician.
Yes. With your claim number and PHN on file, we bill ICBC directly for registered massage therapy and acupuncture at 560 Kingsway, so you are not paying the full fee and waiting to be reimbursed.
Your ICBC claim number and your Personal Health Number. In the first 12 weeks after the crash you do not need a doctor's referral. No claim number yet? Report the claim to ICBC first — the number is created when the claim is submitted.
Book online if you already know whether you want RMT or acupuncture and you have your claim number. Call first if you do not have a claim number yet, are not sure which to start with, have already had treatment elsewhere, or want RMT and acupuncture on the same day.
ICBC pays a standard fee for each pre-approved treatment. If a clinic's fee is higher than ICBC's, the difference is a user fee, and ICBC does not reimburse it. Call (604) 620-6560 before you book and we will tell you what, if anything, applies to your visits.
Yes. Each has its own pre-approved allowance, so one does not eat into the other. You can book them back to back on the same day — tell reception which order you want, or ask us to suggest one.
Yes. Your pre-approved treatments belong to your claim, not to a clinic. Tell us how many visits you have already used, bring any notes from your previous provider, and we will plan the rest of your 12 weeks around that.
Yes. We are open until 8 pm Monday to Thursday, until 7 pm on Friday, and from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. ICBC visits go into the same schedule as every other appointment.
Possibly. After week 12, visits are no longer pre-approved, but more treatment can be requested through your ICBC recovery specialist if you are still recovering. Call and we will talk through where your claim stands.
Yes. After a crash it helps to explain what happened, and what hurts, in the language you think in. Tell us your preferred language when you book. More about our Chinese-speaking RMTs and acupuncturists.
